Weaving & Exploring Sense of Place
Artist Francesca Capone will teach the basics of weaving on a frame loom (provided), including winding their warp, as well as the primary weave structures and techniques. Considering the thread as a carrier of meaning (-A.Albers) students will learn about the history of textile as a language and use this knowledge to create a story-telling textile of their own. The course will begin with lecture and then venture outdoors for a combination of weaving and material foraging. Weaving with local materials is encouraged, and some materials from nearby landscapes and establishments will be provided, along with other yarns. Students will leave with their own frame loom, a foundational knowledge of weaving, and a series of handwoven swatches.
